Inspired

These pictures really make me want to go straight home, dig through my stash of fabric and sew.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

I really like this Triumph of the Sign series by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.  It's a bit heavy-handed with the high-art vs. mass-market theme, but really pretty and striking nonetheless.

Gypset Style

I am so intrigued by the cover of Julia Chaplin's new coffee table book Gypset Style (Gypset = Gypsy + Jet Set).  It feels vaguely shabby chic, but easy on the shabby.  The antique quilt, the dramatic curtains and of course, the bohemian darling draped over that gorgeous silk chair - it's all perfectly lived-in, but still decadent.  And those vibrant blue trousers...to die for.

Nymphenburg

I saw these playful Nymphenburg bowls at Bergdorf the other weekend - I'm not sure how practical they are (maybe they would work with a bed of leaves and cubes of cheese or bunches of grapes), but I'm enamored nonetheless. It's an odd idea, but the incredible detail and impeccable quality makes these read as fine art rather than kitsch.

Skull Extravaganza

I know it's not Halloween, but I have quite the skull obsession and couldn't resist sharing these lovely pieces I've come across lately.  I think they're graphically beautiful and morbid in a refreshingly cheeky way.

Todd Romano

The elegant, eclectic Manhattan apartment of interior designer Todd Romano is impeccible.  There's just enough flounce, but it's still fully masculine.

Opal Necklace

When I saw this necklace I was immediately in love.  The wings, the diamonds, the irregular opal (I have a love affair with opals).  I would wear this peeking out from under a crisp white unbuttoned oxford.

Figural Napkin Rings

My grandma has a spectacular collection of silver napkin rings - not just the typical circles, but the most intricate and fanciful figures.  We spent hours polishing them together when I was little and they still hold a very special place in my heart.  I can't wait to use them all the time when she passes them on to me.  Like my grandma, I think they are best enjoyed as part of a table setting, not just stored in a cabinet.

Rip Van Winkle, $2,200, liveauctioneers.com

from 1885, $650, solvangantiques.com

Amy Bennett

These oil paintings from Amy Bennett's Neighbors series are oddly haunting - like they are from an opening sequence in a Tim Burton film about suburbia.  She creates the eerie effect by building miniature models first and then painting them.

Love this rug...

This amazing rug just puts me in a spring mood.  It's happy and feminine, but the brown-tan background keeps it from being too intense.  Plus, there are so many accent colors to pull out - maybe some orange throw pillows, some black lacquer pieces on the coffee table...

Vacation Sun Hat

I'm heading on vacation soon, for a (hopefully) sun-filled cruise on the Dalmatian Coast and I'm on the lookout for an amazing wide-brim hat.  I'm becoming more and more paranoid about the sun and can't think of a better way to prevent wrinkles while looking stylish.

Kim Cattrall from the Sex and the City movie - the hat may be entirely over the top, but she is definitely my style inspiration for the hat quest.
The floppy, oversized look is just glamorous and the gathered brim is a really unique detail.
Hollywood Sun Hat by Kokin, $425, vivre.com

Wire in the brim of this hat lets you scrunch it and move it as you please - down for the sun and a little flip up for conversation.
Hideaway Hat, $28, anthropologie.com

This has a decided 'Out of Africa' aesthetic.
